A Case of Osteogenic Sarcoma of the Femur

Abstract

|
A case of osteogeic sarcoma of the femur is reported. 22 years old male was admitted on May 10, 1962 with complaining of swelling and draining sinus oa the lower inner surface of his left thigh. The diagnosis entertained prior to present admission was chronic osteomyelitis.
Radiological examination revealed bony defect and osteolytic lesion with periosteal reaction on the inteorior surface of lower end of left femur, and distinguished osteoporosis throughout the bone. Biopsy has been done on May 15. 1962 and the diagnosis "Osteogenic sarcoma, osteolytic type" has been established.
On June 25, 1962, it was treated by the disarticulation of left hip joint with ssatisfactory result, and pathologic findings revelaed the infiltration of large malignant spindle cells and osteoblasts with numerous mitotic figures. Also there was very little tendency to ossify.
